Most visitors expect a serene wildlife experience with hundreds of elephants at a waterhole, but reality is often a convoy of jeeps jostling for position, with dust and engine noise. Reviews, many note that the elephants are there, but the atmosphere feels like a traffic jam—s less a safari, more a jeep parade.The elephants themselves are impressive, but thegatheringis seasonal (July–October), and outside those months, sightings are hit-or-miss.

Guests often book through guesthouses, which can overcharge or bundle poor guides. Many negotiating directly with a park-approved driver or using a reputable company. The safari lasts about 2–3 hours, and the best sightings are at the Minneriya Tank (reservoir) during dry season when elephants congregate.
